Long Term Care Ombudsman | Advocate for elderly and infirm

This week I completed my training through the American Red Cross to become a N.Y.S. Long Term Care Ombudsman. LTC Ombudsmen advocate on behalf of residents of nursing homes and adult homes. Per the N.Y.S. LTC Ombudsman website:

The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (or LTCOP) is a federal advocacy program dedicated to protecting people living in long term care facilities. In New York State, the Office for the Aging operates LTCOP though its Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman.

The elderly and infirm are among our state’s most vulnerable populations. The LTC Ombudsmen perform a valuable role helping long term care facility residents to exercise their rights and obtain the care they need and deserve. As a person living with a loved on in long term care, I know first-hand how important residents’ rights are.

If you believe your loved one is in need of an advocate, you may wish to contact your local Ombudsman.
